Khichdi is every gujarati’s favorite dish. No matter how many different varieties of food is available, but nothing can beat Khichdi, goes very well Kadhi. It is very easy to cook and takes only few minutes.


  • 1 1/2 cup Rice
  • 1/2 cup Tuvar daal
  • 4 tblsp oil
  • 2 dry red chilly
  • 5-6 cloves
  • 3-4 whole black peppers
  • 1 tblsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tblsp fenugreek seeds
  • pinch of asafoetida
  • pinch of turmeric powder
  • 1 tblsp red chilly powder
  • 5-6 green curry leaves
  • Salt per taste


Mix 1 1/2 cup Rice and 1 cup Tuvar daal in a bowl. Rinse it with water and let it rest for 15-20 mins. In pressure cooker add 4 tblsp of oil. Add cloves, dry chillies and whole peppers. Add 1 tblsp of mustard seeds and allow them to pop. Add 1 tblsp of methi , pinch of asafoetida nad turmeric powder. Add green curry leaves and red chilly powder. Set the mix of rice and tuvar daal along with 2 cups of water and let the cooker whistle twice.
